About Colin Stuart Lane

Colin Stuart Lane (born 25 March 1965) is an Australian comedian, actor and TV host, best known for being one-half of the comedy duo Lano and Woodley. Born in Perth, he performed with fellow comedian Frank Woodley for a period of almost 20 years. The two met through theatresports in the mid-1980s and first performed together at an open mike night at the Prince Patrick Hotel in Collingwood, Victoria, in 1987, along with their friend Scott Casley, under the name the Found Objects.

As Lano and Woodley, Woodley played a "goofy innocent" frequently bullied by Lane's pompous, controlling character. Their first show as a duo, "Fence", debuted in 1993, won the Moosehead Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and went on to win the prestigious Perrier Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1994. Subsequent productions included "Curtains", "Glitzy", "Slick", "Bruiser", "The Island" and their 2006 farewell show "Goodbye", which won the 2006 Helpmann Award for Best Comedy. They created two television shows, The Adventures of Lano and Woodley (premiering on the ABC in 1997) and a TV special of The Island in 2004, before parting ways in 2006.

Since the farewell tour, Lane has appeared in Don's Party for the Melbourne Theatre Company, was cast as Pooh-Bah in Essgee Productions' The Mikado in 2008, and wrote and performed the solo cabaret show I'm Not Sure About the Music. He has made numerous television appearances, including Kath & Kim, Good News Week, Spicks and Specks and Thank God You're Here, and presented Wine Me, Dine Me and Kings of Comedy. In 2011 he hosted Ready Steady Cook, and in 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2020 he appeared as a panellist on the UK comedy show QI. In 2018 he reunited with Woodley as Lano and Woodley for FLY, which won the Melbourne Comedy Festival People's Choice Award.
