Hans Sibbel

Lebbis is the stage name of Hans Sibbel, a Dutch cabaret artist born on 12 November 1958 in Amsterdam. He studied economics before turning to performance and broke through in 1989 as one half of the duo Lebbis & Jansen with Dolf Jansen, winning the Leiden Cabaret Festival. Since 2000 he has worked as a solo performer and is considered one of the most engaged and intellectually probing voices in contemporary Dutch cabaret.

Sibbel joined Comedytrain at Comedyclub Toomler in 1993 and worked alongside Dolf Jansen from 1990 to 2006, producing numerous theater programs and Oudejaarsconferences together. From 2000 he launched solo productions under the name Lebbis, including Kingsize, Zwart, Vuur, Het Kwaad, Hoe laat begint het schieten?, Branding (2011), Het grijze gebied and De Paardenpoetser. In 2011 he won the prestigious Poelifinario prize for Branding, with the jury praising his balance of engagement and entertainment, moralising and satire. His later work includes De Bovengrens trilogy (De Bovengrens, De Ervaring, De Ziel, completed 2021-2022) and the 2024-2025 solo show Het Spaanse Kussen. In 2013 Sibbel was diagnosed with scleroderma and paused all activities to recover, returning to Comedytrain in June 2014. He makes his full theater shows available on his YouTube channel.

Lebbis tours Dutch theaters with his solo productions, most recently with Het Spaanse Kussen across the 2024-2025 season. He also performs regularly at Comedytrain shows at Comedyclub Toomler in Amsterdam and continues to write and direct projects with other cabaret artists and musicians.
