About Sanne Wallis de Vries

Sanneke Marjolijn 'Sanne' Wallis de Vries is a Dutch cabaret artist and actress, born on February 12, 1971, in Amsterdam. From a Dutch Jewish background, she has built a career that combines sharp satirical cabaret, original songs, and a remarkable gift for impressions. She broke through in 1996 by winning both the jury and audience prizes at the Leids Cabaret Festival and has since become one of the most distinctive satirical voices in Dutch cabaret.

Sanne Wallis de Vries first participated in the Leids Cabaret Festival in 1995 with the group Sofietje, and returned in 1996 to win both the jury and audience prizes, marking her national breakthrough. After the festival win she developed four solo cabaret programs that all aired on television: 'SOP', 'ZIN', 'STUK' and 'VIER', followed by a compilation called 'BEST'. In 1996 she co-founded the ST&M (Stem, Theater en Muziek) theater training program with fellow performers including Selma Susanna. She co-presented the VPRO program Waskracht with Thomas van Luyn and became known nationally for her sharp impressions on the satirical show Kopspijkers. She contributed to the Oudejaarsconference in 2010 ('Gedoog, hoop en liefde') and 2012 ('Het Eerlijke Verhaal') under direction of Erik van Muiswinkel. From 2018 to 2019 she hosted her own weekly satire program 'Sanne Wallis de Show' on BNNVARA, with nine episodes satirizing news and politics through songs, sketches and guest interviews. Her 2020 program was titled 'KOM'. She is a multiple-time Poelifinario nominee.
