About Thjum Arts
Thjum Arts is a Dutch cabaret performer and stand-up comedian born on August 15, 1993, in Nijmegen, Netherlands. He started performing on stage at 18 with a self-written monologue at his school's talent night, then studied political science before switching to a degree in cultural and social development, which he completed in 2019. In 2021 he swept both the jury prize and the audience prize at the 55th edition of the Cameretten Festival, the country's most prestigious launch platform for new Dutch cabaret talent.
Thjum Arts won the 55th Cameretten Festival in 2021, taking home both the jury and audience prize. He beat finalists Teun Wolters and Blauwe Vinkjes with a final set that the jury praised for its conscious timing, intelligent jokes, and understatement. He then toured his debut full-length program 'Tijdloos Genot' ('Timeless Pleasure') through 120 Dutch theaters over the 2022-2024 seasons, playing an antihero version of himself. Earlier in his career he won both prizes at the Amsterdam Student Cabaret Festival in 2018 and was a finalist at the Leiden Cabaret Festival in 2020. In 2024-2025 he tours his second full-length program 'Hoe heeft het zover kunnen komen?' ('How did it get this far?'), a patchwork of interconnected stories about singles weekends, men's weekends, group trips, and a skydive session, with his trademark dry humor and absurdist facial expressions. He has also worked as a columnist on NPO Radio 1's late-night program 'Met het oog op morgen' and combines cabaret with side work as a teacher, director, and workshop instructor.
