About Fredrik Lindström
Fredrik Lindström was born on 27 June 1963 in Eskilstuna, in Södermanland County, and works in Sweden as a linguist, comedian, film director and presenter. In the early 1980s he played drums in the heavy metal band Crystal Pride.
Swedish listeners first met him on the radio show Hassan, where he made prank calls in the guise of invented characters, usually with some small oddity that tipped the conversation into farce. The show ran on P3 for several seasons during the 1990s.
His reputation as a linguist rests on his interest in Swedish dialects. In the 2000s the documentary series Värsta språket, made for Sveriges Television, brought his name into Swedish homes. He has written several books that fed the series and dealt with the history of the Swedish language, written in the same way: an informal manner carrying material drawn from his linguistic training.
Since 2010 he has taken over from Björn Hellberg as the referee on the television quiz På spåret, which turns largely on geography while also covering history, language, sport and other subjects, and where his knowledge of dialects tends to show. A few years after various smaller stand-up appearances he directed two Swedish comedy dramas, with parts for Mikael Persbrandt and Magnus Härenstam.
