About Josh Blue
Josh Blue (born November 27, 1978) is an American comedian. He was born in Cameroon, where his father, Walter Blue, was a professor of Romance languages teaching during a mission, and grew up in Saint Paul, Minnesota, graduating from Como Park Senior High School in 1997. He began his career as a comedian while seeking a creative writing degree at The Evergreen State College, where audiences reacted enthusiastically to his self-deprecating humor. Blue has cerebral palsy, specifically classified as spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy, and much of his humor centers on living with his disability.
Blue won the prestigious Comedy Works New Faces contest in 2002 and took first place at the 2004 Las Vegas Comedy Festival's Royal Flush Comedy Competition, winning $10,000. He was voted the Last Comic Standing on NBC's reality show during its fourth season, which aired May to August 2006, and was the first comedian to do stand-up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. He coined the term "palsy punch" during the final round of Last Comic Standing, and appeared on the show to "make people aware of the fact that people with disabilities can make an impact." He was voted among the best comedians by viewers in Comedy Central's Stand-up Comedy Showdown in both 2010 and 2011.
In 2021, Blue auditioned for season sixteen of America's Got Talent, earned four yeses, advanced through the live rounds, and placed third behind aerialist Aidan Bryant and magician Dustin Tavella; he returned for America's Got Talent: All-Stars in 2023. Blue resides in Denver, Colorado, with his two children, creates and sells sculptures and paintings, and is multilingual, speaking English, French, and Wolof fluently. He also competed in Paralympic seven-a-side soccer as part of the United States national team at the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens.
