Samambaia is one of the administrative regions, or satellite cities, of the Federal District in Brazil rather than an independent municipality. It was developed from the 1980s to house a growing population around the capital, and takes its name from the Portuguese word for fern.
Densely populated and residential, it forms part of the wider Brasรญlia area. The comedian Tiago Santineli was born here.
