Comedians born in Knotty Ash

Knotty Ash is a suburban district on the eastern side of Liverpool, in north-west England. On the surface it is an ordinary residential area, yet its name is known across the country.

That is the doing of Ken Dodd, who was born and lived here and turned Knotty Ash, with its Diddy Men and jam butty mines, into a running feature of his act. The association gives this corner of Merseyside a lasting place in British comedy history.
